Atta Tarar expresses hope for peaceful US-Iran resolution

Pakistan’s Information Minister Attaullah Tarar has expressed optimism that the ongoing tensions between the United States and Iran will eventually be resolved through peaceful dialogue, while stressing that Pakistan must continue to act cautiously in its diplomatic role.

Speaking on a television programme hosted by Shahzeb Khanzada, the minister said he hoped the US-Iran conflict would reach a positive and constructive outcome. He emphasised that Pakistan’s position as a mediator requires careful and balanced engagement with all parties involved.

Tarar noted that certain “spoilers” were attempting to create instability and spread misinformation regarding Pakistan’s diplomatic role in regional affairs. He alleged that these elements were uncomfortable with Pakistan’s growing international recognition and its efforts to contribute to de-escalation between conflicting sides.

He further stated that Pakistan’s constructive diplomatic engagement in sensitive geopolitical matters is increasingly being acknowledged by the international community, which he said was a source of national pride. According to him, this recognition has not been well received by those who benefit from continued instability in the region.

The minister did not name specific countries or groups but reiterated that Pakistan remains committed to promoting peace, stability and dialogue. He added that the country’s foreign policy priorities are centred on preventing escalation and encouraging negotiated settlements in regional disputes.

Pakistan has recently been involved in backchannel diplomacy and facilitation efforts aimed at reducing tensions between Tehran and Washington, particularly in the wake of heightened instability in the Middle East. Officials have repeatedly highlighted Islamabad’s role as a responsible stakeholder seeking regional peace.

Tarar concluded that while challenges remain, continued diplomatic engagement and restraint by all parties could lead to a sustainable resolution of the US-Iran standoff.
